Mikayla Baumgartner is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Bowie, Maryland, currently based in NYC. Her practice revolves around creative expression through material experimentation and process-driven making. Working mainly across textiles and ceramics, she explores design, construction, and transformation as they relate to human experience.

With a background in fashion and visual production, Baumgartner’s approach is informed by a strong sense of storytelling, technical precision, and attention to detail. She aims to develop deep expertise within mediums while continually pushing their boundaries.

Baumgartner’s recent work is rooted in themes of identity and healing, drawing from autobiographical archives and personal history. It explores how memory, labor, and material can hold and communicate meaning. Integrating traditional, repetitive processes such as weaving and slip casting with techniques like image transfer and hand-building, layered forms are created.
